Weekly Fang: January 15, 2018

The SONY Open concluded on Sunday with Pat Kizzire as the winner after 6 holes of tiebreaker quite boring. What marked the event was that the cameramen left the Golf Channel refused to work as a protest against their collective contract. The TV broadcast made us wonder how good the covers are today.

How did the Latinos go in the tournament?

Abraham Ancer: The cut did not happen

Roberto Díaz: T47. Hill with an eagle on the 18th hole.

Fabián Gómez: The cut did not pass

Emiliano Grillo: T47. It had good first three days, it fell on Sunday a little bit.

The LAAC is coming

The Latin American Amateur Championship will take place from January 20 to 23 at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago de Chile.

In its fourth edition, we hope to see outstanding performances by the Chileans, led by Toto Gana and Joaquin Niemann. The winner wins an invitation to this year's Masters.

It's always curious to see young amateurs like Paul Chaplet competing with gentlemen like Álvaro Ortiz - both from Costa Rica.

By the way, they had to move the dates for the visit of Pope Francis - although it would not be surprising if it gives them better ratings, since they will not compete with the PGA Tour when closing the tournament.

The list of the field is here.

The tournament will have live coverage at LAACgolf.com

Prediction: Álvaro Ortiz from Mexico takes him to the playoff beating Niemann.

Remember the 2017 edition won by Win:

Career Builder

Events are coming in California on the PGA Tour, starting with the Career Builder. This event has a cut after three days and is carried out in three different fields. We hope the caddies do not forget the yardage book of the day.

Latinos in the Career Builder field:

  • Abraham Ancer
  • Roberto Díaz
  • Fabián Gómez
  • Jhonattan Vegas
  • Camilo Villegas

Abu Dhabi HSBC

The European Tour continues in Abu Dhabi for a couple of weeks - field that features the return of Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose and other world-class figures.

Eye with Justin Rose who had a close of awesome year. Also a lot of eye to what happens with Rory - who had a 2017 full of physical discomfort.
